Here is another article which talks about standardizing permits in the US. In Australia, I’m pretty sure the permits system for solar is very standardized under the Clean Energy Council (CEC). Solar installer’s must have a CEC installation accreditation, which requires them to be licensed electrician’s and to meet other requirements. There is also a voluntary Retailer Code of Conduct.
In addition to standardization being “the next big thing” in innovation in the solar industry, I also expect that mergers and acquisitions to achieve vertical and horizontal integration will be important.
