Ergon’s new tariff will stop solar, but not peak demand | Business Spectator

People need to lobby policy makers to legislate that electricity retailers provide capacity charges. This will be good for solar and storage uptake, good for reducing network augmentation, and good for making sure that people who are left without solar and storage don’t have to bear increased costs for using electricity.

The Queensland power utility, like many other power networks, is proposing a new tariff that is purportedly meant to help curb peak demand. Yet its own consultant reveals it won’t curb peak demand at all – but it will help curb uptake of solar.
