Applications of peer to peer networks

Peer-to-peer networks could potentially displace any application where client-server networks are used, bearing in mind that there are advantages and disavantages relative to the more incumbent model. Some applications include (in addition to the ones listed in the Wikipedia article):

  • social networking—for more information see here (FMISH), here, and here;
  • access or mutualist economy applications (again, there are pros and cons, FMISH), e.g. crowdfunding the development, ownership and operation of infrastructure or any asset.

There would be no middle entity trying to get financial gain or control the network.
